Penn Contractors' clients value our meticulous attention to detail, which is one of the reasons homeowners return when they have a new project. From sophisticated design to quality construction and carpentry, our team prioritizes precision and ensures every plan reflects each client’s vision. Our experienced interior designers refine the project, focusing on the small details that bring a home to life. Keep reading for a behind-the-scenes look at our process.
Spacing and Shapes
Spacing and shapes may not be the most glamorous part of the interior design process, but they are critical. These foundational aspects set the tone for a harmonious and functional environment. Positive space—areas occupied by furniture, fixtures, and décor—must be carefully balanced with negative space, which is intentionally left open to ensure flow, comfort, and visual clarity. Shapes are equally pivotal, influencing both the mood and functionality of the design. Curved shapes can bring softness and a sense of movement, while angular shapes create structure and a contemporary edge. By starting with these core principles, Penn designers ensure that every element feels naturally intentional, resulting in rooms and homes that are both visually captivating and seamlessly functional.
Sourcing
Sourcing appliances, fixtures, and materials is a meticulous and collaborative process that puts the personal touches on a remodel. Sourcing begins with getting to know our clients and their lifestyles, along with preferences and budgets. We also consider any products they’ve already picked out that should be matched. Our interior designers work closely with trusted suppliers and manufacturers, visiting showrooms and exploring catalogs to handpick elements that align with the home’s aesthetic and technical requirements. From selecting energy-efficient appliances and custom fixtures to choosing sustainable materials like countertops, tiles, and flooring, every decision is deliberate. The process additionally involves coordinating with Penn’s construction teams to ensure proper specifications, sizing, and installation logistics.
Styling
Styling may seem like the easiest part of interior design, but it takes just as much planning and consideration as spacing and sourcing. Elements that may look stunning in a showroom or online can feel out of place or underwhelming in the actual environment. By first getting to know our clients, we gain an understanding of the existing color palettes within their homes to ensure that the area of their home we are redesigning merges seamlessly into its surrounding environment. We can then begin pulling samples and putting together mood boards to gain a full picture of how the different colors and textures of the design will complement each other. In the design mood board below, for example, the tile colors can be found throughout the countertop sample, and the hardware highlights the tone of the wood sample.
All of these design considerations combined create results that continuously wow Penn clients, and visitors to their homes. Ready to start your own project? Reach out to us today to speak with one of our designers, and take a look at our project portfolio for inspiration.
